From photographs of knots and scars in a Poplar tree trunk, a gnarled Ponderosa Pine root, a sandstone outcrop, and Desert Aloe intertwined with a Spider plant. Broca’s area of the brain is believed to be critical for speech production; it is named for the 19th century French physician Pierre Paul Broca, who found that patients with damage in the area of the brain’s frontal lobe had difficulty with speech and language.
